The Club’s Newsletter, the “Scuttlebutt” was launched in early 1995. In 1996 a flagpole donated by Walt and Marion Spaeth, the Club’s Honorary Lifetime Members, was erected at the Tall Oaks Marina sporting a flag, which had flown over the Capitol Building in Washington D.C. commemorating Dick Keane, a past commodore of the Club who died in a tragic accident the prior year.
In August of 1996, Peter C.C. Brown suddenly died. In spite of the loss of his inspiration, the club has not only survived, but also flourished. Thanks to strong elected leadership, recent years have seen the membership continue to grow and diversify.
Most of our Club sponsored picnics now take place at the New Jersey State Marina at the head of the North Branch of the Forked River. Our cruising schedule takes us to Atlantic City, Cape May, Block Island and the Chesapeake Bay in addition to some local overnight trips. We maintain a close affiliation with the “Windjammers Yacht Club”, the “Cedar Mar Marina”, and the “Metedeconk River Yacht Club”. Our Social events include a dinner and theater trip to Long Beach Island and a voyage on the “Black Whale” in addition to at least three picnics. Won’t you come and join us?

During the summer of 1986, a group of sailors moored at the new Tall Oaks Marina on the North Branch of the Forked River in New Jersey, with abundant encouragement from the marina owner, Peter C.C. Brown, began an informal sailboat-racing club. As the size of the new marina grew, so did the number of racers and in 1988 they began calling themselves the “Forked River Racing Association”. During the summer of 1989 the group renamed itself “The Tall Oaks Yacht Club”, adopted a set of by-laws, embraced all boaters and hosted social events and informal cruising in addition to the racing series.
The summer of 1991 was an exciting one. A Club organized cruising program was begun as was the fall “Windjammer – Tall Oaks Sailboat Racing Challenge”. Peter C.C. Brown provided a Port Wine Decanter, designed by himself, as the Trophy. The Club Burgee was designed and distributed to all members.
1993 saw the beginning of the favorite party of the season, the always-rainy Annual Pig Roast. The Club was incorporated as the “Tall Oaks Yacht Club” in 1994 and the Club began sponsoring “Boat US” membership.
